Step-by-step recipe

  1. Drain the split peas

The 200 g of split peas should have soaked overnight in cold water. Toss the soaking water, rinse them in the colander and let them drain.

  2. Cut the pumpkin and onion

Peel the 500 g of pumpkin, scoop out the seeds and cut the flesh into roughly 3 cm cubes. Peel and slice the onion.

  3. Sauté the onion

Heat 1 tbsp of olive oil in the saucepan over medium heat and sauté the onion, stirring. Add 1 tsp of turmeric and stir for 30 seconds.

  4. Add the veggies and broth

Add the pumpkin and split peas, then pour in the 75 cl of hot broth. Top up with hot water to cover by about 2 cm and bring to a boil.

  5. Cook over low heat

Turn down to low, cover and cook for 40 minutes, until the split peas mash easily. Stir now and then and add a little hot water if it sticks.

Tip · Split peas settle on the bottom and stick fast. Scrape the bottom with the wooden spoon every time you stir.
  6. Blend and season

Off the heat, blend the soup with the immersion blender until smooth. Add 1 pinch of salt and 1 pinch of pepper, taste and serve piping hot.

Tip · Push the blender all the way to the bottom of the saucepan before turning it on to avoid splashes. If the soup is too thick, thin it out with a little hot water.
And there you go, it's readyCheck off every step to celebrate.
