  1. Cook the pasta

Bring the water in the saucepan to a boil. Add the pasta and 1 pinch of salt. Cook 8 to 10 min over medium heat until al dente. Drain in the colander.

  2. Prep the broccoli

Wash the broccoli and cut it into small florets. Set aside.

  3. Warm the milk

In the saucepan, warm the milk over low heat without letting it boil. Set aside.

Tip · To keep the milk from scorching, stir constantly while the sauce thickens.
  4. Make the béchamel

In the skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour and stir for 1 min to make a roux. Pour in the hot milk little by little, stirring so no lumps form. Let it thicken for 5 min over low heat. Salt and pepper.

  5. Steam the broccoli

In the saucepan, bring 2 cm of water to a boil. Set the broccoli in a steamer basket over it and cover. Cook 5 min until tender but still a little crunchy.

  6. Mix the pasta and sauce

In a mixing bowl, toss the drained pasta with the béchamel. Add half the shredded cheese and mix well.

  7. Fill the dish

Pour the mixture into the baking dish. Scatter the broccoli florets on top. Sprinkle with the rest of the cheese.

Tip · If the gratin browns too fast, cover it with a sheet of foil for the last 3 minutes.
  8. Bake until golden

Bake at 200°C (thermostat 6-7) for 10 min, until the top is nicely browned.
