Step-by-step recipe

  1. Preheat the oven

Turn the oven on to 220 °C and put the baking sheet inside so it heats up too.

  2. Peel and cut the fries

Peel the 600 g of potatoes and cut them into sticks about 1 cm thick.

  3. Blanch the fries

Drop the sticks into a saucepan of boiling water with the pinch of salt for 5 min. Drain them in the colander and dry them well.

Tip · Dry the fries really well with a dish towel after draining, or they'll stay soggy in the oven instead of getting golden.
  4. Bake the fries

Toss the fries with 1 tbsp of oil in the mixing bowl, spread them on the hot baking sheet and bake for 25 min. Flip them halfway through.

  5. Prep the toppings

Wash the lettuce and slice the tomato. Shape the 250 g of ground beef into 2 patties and season with salt and pepper.

  6. Cook the patties

Heat 1 tbsp of oil in the skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for 4 to 5 min per side, until there's no pink left in the middle (70 °C).

Tip · Don't press the patties with the spatula while they cook, you'll lose the juices and they'll dry out.
  7. Melt the cheese

Lay 1 slice of cheese on each patty for the last minute of cooking, off the heat if needed, so it melts.

  8. Toast the buns

Open up the 2 burger buns and toast them for 2 min in the oven or in the hot skillet, cut side down.

  9. Build the burgers

Spread the ketchup (1 tbsp per bottom bun), add the lettuce and tomato, then the cheesy patty, and close it up with the top bun.

  10. Serve with the fries

Pull the fries out of the oven, salt them lightly and serve them right away with the burgers.

And there you go, it's readyCheck off every step to celebrate.

How long does it keep?

Eat it fresh. Crunch doesn't survive the fridge: fried or breaded ahead, it comes out all soggy. Save it for the day you eat it, that's when it's good!
