  1. Heat the oil

Add the oil to the skillet and heat it over medium heat until hot but not smoking.

  2. Chop the onion

Peel the onion and dice it small on the cutting board.

  3. Cook the onion

Add the diced onion to the hot oil and cook it for 3 min over medium heat until translucent.

Tip · If the onion starts browning too fast, turn the heat down a bit and add 1 tbsp of water so it doesn't burn.
  4. Add the tomatoes

Add the crushed tomatoes to the skillet with the onion and let it simmer over low heat, stirring now and then.

  5. Cook the pasta

While the tomatoes simmer, bring 1 L of water to a boil in the saucepan. Add a pinch of salt and the pasta. Cook it for 8 to 10 min, following the time on the package, until al dente.

  6. Drain the pasta

Once the pasta is cooked, tip it into the colander and give it a quick rinse under cold water to stop the cooking.

  7. Stir in the lentils

Add the drained lentils to the skillet with the tomatoes and onion. Mix well and let it warm for 2 min over low heat to heat the lentils through.

Tip · For an even heartier dish, you can add a pinch of sweet paprika or cumin to the skillet with the lentils.
  8. Season the dish

Add a pinch of salt and pepper to the skillet. Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed.

  9. Serve the pasta

Divide the pasta among plates and top it with the lentil, tomato and onion mixture. Serve right away.
