Step-by-step recipe

  1. Get the rice going

Bring 300 ml of water to a boil in the saucepan with a pinch of salt. Pour in the 160 g of rice, stir once, cover and turn the heat way down.

Tip · Don't lift the lid or stir while it cooks, or the rice gets sticky and cooks unevenly.
  2. Chop the onion

Peel the onion and dice it small while the rice cooks.

  3. Brown the bacon

Put the 160 g of diced bacon in the skillet with no added fat, over medium-high heat. Stir now and then until golden.

  4. Add the onion and oil

Add the 2 tbsp of olive oil and the onion to the bacon. Cook over medium heat until the onion is translucent.

  5. Cook the peas

Tip the 200 g of frozen peas straight into the skillet. Stir and cook over medium heat, stirring, until hot and tender.

  6. Let the rice rest

Once the rice has had its 15 minutes of cooking, turn off the heat under the saucepan and leave it covered 3 minutes. The water is fully absorbed, so there's nothing to drain. Then fluff it with a fork.

  7. Stir-fry the rice

Tip the rice into the skillet, turn the heat up to high and stir 2 to 3 minutes to coat it well. Go easy on the salt (the bacon is already salty), add pepper and serve right away.

Tip · Salt with a light hand, since smoked bacon already brings plenty of salt. Taste before adding any.
