Step-by-step recipe

  1. Prep the veggies

Trim the green beans and cut them in half. Halve the cherry tomatoes and thinly slice the half red onion.

  2. Boil the water

Fill the saucepan with 2 L of water, add the pinch of salt and bring to a full boil over high heat.

  3. Cook the green beans

Drop the green beans into the boiling water and cook for 5 min: they should stay a little crunchy. Lift them out with a slotted spoon or drain them in the colander while keeping the water in the saucepan, then put them in the mixing bowl.

Tip · If you have time, run the green beans under cold water after you take them out, it locks in their green color and stops the cooking.
  4. Cook the pasta

Bring the water back to a boil, then add the 250 g of whole wheat pasta and cook for 10 to 11 min, stirring now and then. Drain well.

Tip · Taste a piece one minute before the end: whole wheat pasta goes from firm to mushy fast, so you want it to stay a little firm to the bite.
  5. Sauté the onion

While the pasta cooks, heat half the olive oil in the skillet over medium heat and sauté the red onion for 3 min until it softens.

  6. Drain the tuna

Open the 2 cans of tuna, drain them well and flake the tuna with a fork or spoon.

  7. Put the salad together

Tip the warm pasta into the mixing bowl with the green beans, onion, cherry tomatoes and tuna. Add the rest of the olive oil, the balsamic vinegar and the pepper, then toss gently.
