Step-by-step recipe

  1. Prep the onion and garlic

Peel and finely chop the large onion and the 2 garlic cloves, and keep them separate.

  2. Sauté the onion

Heat 1 tbsp of olive oil over medium heat in the sauté pan. Cook the chopped onion, stirring, until it's translucent.

  3. Cook the ground beef

Add the 300 g of ground beef and break it up with the wooden spoon. Cook over high heat until there's no pink left.

Tip · Let the meat brown without stirring too much for the first minute, so it sears instead of releasing water and the sauce gets more flavor.
  4. Add the garlic

Add the chopped garlic, salt and pepper. Stir so it flavors the meat without burning.

  5. Put the water on to boil

Fill the large saucepan with water, salt it and bring to a boil over high heat, with a lid if you have one.

  6. Add the tomatoes

Pour the 400 g of crushed tomatoes over the meat. Turn the heat down to low and let it simmer uncovered, stirring now and then.

  7. Cook the pasta

Drop the 200 g of whole wheat pasta into the boiling water as soon as the sauce starts simmering. Cook for the time on the package, about 12 min, stirring at the start.

  8. Drain the pasta

Save a small glass of pasta water, then drain the pasta in the colander right before serving.

  9. Toss and serve

Taste the sauce and adjust the salt and pepper. Tip the pasta into the sauce, toss 1 min over low heat, then serve right away.

Tip · If the sauce is too thick, add a little pasta water so it coats every piece of pasta.
And there you go, it's readyCheck off every step to celebrate.
