Step-by-step recipe

check things off as you go
  1. Preheat the oven

Turn the oven on to 180 °C, convection or regular bake, right from the start so it's nice and hot when the dish goes in.

  2. Chop the onion

Peel the onion and cut it into small dice. Open the cans of tuna and drain them well.

  3. Sauté the onion

Heat the olive oil in the skillet over medium heat and sauté the onion for 5 minutes, stirring, until it turns translucent.

  4. Thaw the spinach

Add the 370 g of frozen spinach, cover and let it thaw for 8 to 10 minutes over medium heat, stirring now and then. Then mash it with the spoon and let the water cook off for 2 minutes, uncovered.

Tip · Spinach releases a ton of water. Mash it well and let it cook off, uncovered, until the bottom of the skillet is almost dry, or the gratin will be soggy.
  5. Cook the pasta

Meanwhile, bring a big saucepan of salted water to a boil and cook the 150 g of elbow pasta for about 8 minutes. Drain it in the colander.

Tip · Drain the pasta one minute before the package time, it finishes cooking in the oven without going mushy.
  6. Make the sauce

Turn the heat down under the spinach and add the crème fraîche, the nutmeg, salt and pepper. Stir for 1 minute, then fold in the flaked tuna.

  7. Toss with the pasta

Tip the drained pasta into the skillet and mix well. Taste and adjust the seasoning.

  8. Fill the dish

Pour the mixture into the baking dish and spread it out evenly. Sprinkle the 75 g of shredded Swiss cheese on top.

  9. Bake until golden

Bake at 180 °C until the cheese is golden and bubbly. Let it rest 2 minutes before serving.

And there you go, it's readyCheck off every step to celebrate.
