This menu, in a nutshell
On a fall Sunday, you want a meal that warms everyone up without spending the whole morning in the kitchen. This menu does it in three acts: hot spiced apple juice to toast, then a red kuri squash and chestnut soup made the day before and reheated in ten minutes.
The main course is a sweet potato shepherd's pie browned in the oven, served with a walnut mache salad for freshness. And to finish, an old-fashioned apple tart that bakes while you enjoy the starter.
happy Sunday!

How much does this menu for 6 cost?
About $50, or $8.30 per person at average supermarket prices. The ground beef alone accounts for a quarter of the budget.
What can you make ahead of time?
The soup (without the cream), toasted seeds, tart dough and shepherd's pie meat are all made the day before. On the day, only the mash, assembly and baking remain.
Can you make it vegetarian?
Yes: swap the beef for 400 g cooked green lentils and 300 g sauteed mushrooms. The rest of the menu is already vegetarian.
Can kids help?
Of course: mashing the sweet potatoes, arranging the apples on the tart, cracking walnuts for the salad. Cutting the squash stays a grown-up job.
